Winter Wellness Tips

12/01/2020, Vana

As the day is made up of shifting bio-energies, and these transform from season to season. The award winning Vana has explained to us what a winter day looks like during the Shishira ritu (season), and how we can adapt our patterns and habits to feel our best during this time.

The best time to receive energy from nature is before 6:00 am (Vata period) as it is provided through asana, pranayama, meditation and prayers.

6:00 am to 10:00 am is the best time to stimulate your metabolism through physical activities/exercises.

10:00 am  - 2:00 pm (Pitta period) is the best time for intellectual activities as your mind is most active.

2:00 pm – 6:00 pm is the most delicate time for those with a marked Vata imbalance. This is the time to spend in a calm and peaceful environment, doing creative activities. This could be painting, writing or meditating.

6:00 pm until 10:00 pm (Kapha period) is the best for winding down, allowing the mind and body to slow down and relax. Dinner should always be a light meal, taken before 7 pm, as metabolism is slow at this time. Be sure to avoid anything that will disturb or agitate the mind before sleep such as checking emails or spending time on your phone.

10:00pm until 02:00am (Pitta period) is when the body detoxifies itself physically. Being in deep sleep allows this process to take place without any hindrance.

02:00 am – 06:00 am (Vata period) is the time that a deep psychological detox occurs when the sleep is deep.
