A Guide To Neurofeedback Therapy
10/03/2025, KamalayaNeurofeedback therapy is gaining popularity in the wellness world as a natural and drug-free way to improve our mental health and optimum brain functioning, but what exactly is it? Continue reading this article to find out more.
What exactly is Neurofeedback Therapy?
Whilst originally developed to address various neurological and psychological conditions like anxiety, ADHD, sleep issues and brain injuries, neurofeedback has expanded into wellness due to its profound mental and emotional wellbeing effects.
Neurofeedback, a form of biofeedback, involves training and regulating our brain activity by providing real-time feedback on brain wave patterns. Since conditions like anxiety and ADHD occur when brainwaves are out of balance (anxiety is often linked to too much fast brainwave activity, making us feel on edge, while ADHD is associated with excessive slow brainwave activity, leading to difficulty concentrating) neurofeedback therapy aims to correct these imbalances and support better brain function.
There are various types of neurofeedback, each targeting different brainwave patterns to enhance mental wellbeing. Amplitude training works by encouraging or reducing specific brainwave activity, while slow cortical training focuses on emotional regulation and brain stability. Z-score training helps adjust brain activity to align with patterns seen in healthy individuals.
What benefits does Neurofeedback Therapy have?
The process leads to improved self-regulation, stress reduction and emotional balance and can be applied to enhance cognitive functions such as attention, memory and emotional regulation. Unlike other brain stimulation treatments, neurofeedback does not involve electrical currents or invasive procedures. It simply guides the brain to self-correct and function better.
