Samahita Retreat

Samahita Retreat

Thailand, Southeast Asia

Samahita is a charming resort hidden on Koh Samui’s sleepy southwest coastline. Its location is a world away from the overdevelopment that blights some parts of the island. It is as close as you will get to the Thailand of years past - quiet and still, next to the deep turquoise waters, and shielded by coconut trees gently swaying in the breeze. The area is home to local fishermen with their long tail boats, and to locals getting quietly along with their business. You will be woken to the sound of the roosters at sunrise, and the slow pace of life then kicks in at Samahita. Days are gentle, with lots of yoga and stretching, meditation and mindfulness, om-chanting and candle gazing. This very low-key resort is the brainchild of Irishman Paul Dallaghan, an internationally acclaimed Yogi master. When he is not working on his PhD in the US he is found here, teaching the teachers who follow him cult-like, and in recent years they have allowed anyone with an interest in yoga to come along. Samahita is the absolute perfect place for solo travels as there is a real family connection from the onset. Accommodation is intentionally simple, with no unnecessary trappings, yet it has all you need including a very good Wifi signal. Meals are communal with locally sourced, delicious and wholesome buffet-style food - there are bone broths, raw dips, whole fish and a plethora of colourful vegetables and tantalising raw chocolate desserts. The daily schedule has something for everyone, from core-engaging high-intensity workouts to sole cycles and, of course, a huge range of yoga classes.

Cuisine

Samahita has a team of over 10 Thai cooks and a talented head chef. They make all their food here with care and love. They've hired a large team to ensure everything is homemade and fresh.

Complimentary morning coffee and tea are out by 6:45 am. Buffet items are available from 8:15 am until 1:30 pm and again in the evening from 6-8pm. They try to cater to a wide variety of diets, displaying all possible allergens, give raw and vegan options while also catering for those who like to eat fish and dairy. They make fresh juice daily in their own kitchen for the brunch buffet and offer homemade soy milk, coconut milk, cow milk, brown rice milk, and a homemade electrolyte drink.
